Frequently Asked Questions
how do i register for the conference?
Click on the Register Here button at the top of our website, and it will take you straight to the registration page on ALSBOM’s website (State Board of Missions).
who do i make a check payable to?
Please make checks payable to Alabama Association of Baptist Secretaries or AABS. We have changed our name but it is a process we are still working to complete. You can bring your payment with you to the conference or mail it to the following address: Coosa River Baptist Association, Attn.: Linda Cotton, 28344 AL Highway 21, Talladega, AL, 35160. Thank you for your patience and understanding!
are there any special items i should bring with me?
Rain gear in case, reusable water bottle (Shocco has water stations), vanity/makeup mirror (if in double occupancy room), eye mask for sleeping (if you need a dark room), ear plugs (wax ones work best), pillow (if you like your own best), throw blanket (if you are cold-natured), medications, phone charger, Sunday/church attire (for the banquet if you would like to dress up - not required), spending money for The Station (coffees, snacks, etc.), chocolate/candy (we can only provide so much chocolate), a flexible, open heart/spirit.
How do the Certification classes work?
Each session requires 3 hours of teaching time. You can take all of the sessions or just take the sessions that most interest you. There is an additional $25 fee for each session. lf you complete all eight sessions, you will receive a certificate of completion. You do not receive a certificate for completing one session.
IMPORTANT: Completing all courses for the certification does take a special commitment. It will take time away from other classes you might want to attend. There is nothing we can do about that. The good thing is that it can take as much or as little time as you would like! While at the conference, if you do nothing but certification courses to try and finish as quickly as possible, it will take about 3 years. You could also just do one course per year. It would take longer to finish all of the courses, but that would allow you time to take other classes at the conference as well.
The session titles are: Managing the Administrative Task of the Church, Know What Your Church/Denomination Believes and Why, Leadership, Ministering in Your Support Position, Enabling Your Church/Ministry Office Through Your Organization Skills, Communicating Effectively, Knowing Yourself and Being True to Yourself and Christ, Understanding How Your Church/Ministry Office Manages Finances.
